Happy Independence Day
July 4th, 2006 . by bbaierI wanted to post this cool little quote by John Adams, our second president, that I saw on the NBC evening news tonight. Our country is 230 years old and doesn’t look a day over 50. God bless America!
“The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epocha in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forevermore.”
He apparently wrote this in a letter to his wife Abigail. He said the second day of July because he was talking about the day all of the colonies passed the resolution that said “that these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States.” The day we know as Independence Day is the day they signed the document that came out of the resolution passed on July 2, 1776. There is your American History lesson for today.

Did you seriously just say, “our country is 230 years old and doesn’t look a day over 50″? Can you say that about a country?
You know it!!
You know you can’t hound me to update my website and then make fun of my posts once I finally do update.
Ok, fine, you’re right. I just thought it was a funny thing to say. But you still need to update your website more often. And not just with quotes by John Adams. Or articles about the Big House, although that was pretty interesting. Maybe you could do like you used to and actually write about what’s going on…
